Sid: And I know you’re on the edge of your seat because you want to find out what happened to Gary Whetstone.  Gary was a nice all America athlete in school and he has an accident; he’s no longer able to do sports; you know sin is a spiral it’s when you get involved in sin just a little bit of sin if you don’t stop it in its tracks just like fear if you don’t stop it in its track it will take you lower and lower.  And that’s what happened to him, he lost his mind, he was into drugs, and gun dealing and sex and motorcycle gangs, totally paranoid went into rages.  So his parents were beside themselves so they found out about an electronic lobotomy and yeah it works like a lobotomy except this reduces your mind to about a 3 year old forever.  He’s ready to go in two days before someone shares the gospel with him, he gets saved; he doesn’t even understand what’s happening.  He finally gets to talk to the doctor because they are ready to do this procedure and what did you say to the doctor Gary, now you know you’re in your right mind but what did you say?

Gary:  I’m sitting in my right mind and I’m in front of the doctor and I said “You know what happened to me?  And he looks at me and says, “What makes you think you have santity now your sane now?  I said “I prayed with this guy and I asked Jesus into my life…

Sid: Oh, I can imagine what he thought.  (Laughing)

Gary:  Well, well he says to me “He says, now your hearing voices from God?”  And I said “Yeah, that’s it I’m hearing God talk to me now, my mind is sane it’s like it was when I was a child, it’s clear, I think clearly.”  He said “So you think this is God in you now?”  And I said “That’s it you got it.”  And I saw him put his glasses down over his nose and sit back in his chair scribble down something on the pad and I got the picture, he did not believe me.”  Sid this rage rose up on the inside of me and I lunged over the table and I beat that man in the face busted his nose, blood everywhere.  He hits the panic button, and off I go man they shoot me, they hit me and I’m down man, with drugs man they shot me up and they put this straight jacket on me and pulled me back out of there and here I am going back to my isolation ward.  And as I’m going my mind is all foggy from the drugs and I’m like “What happened to me, how did I get here, how did I beat that guy up, why did I do it?”  How many ever acted like the devil after you got born again? Any rate, here I am I’m just minding my own trying to figure out what’s going on with me and I’m in a car door going down to the isolation ward and I hear this voice because the guard let me go, he took the restraints off my hands and feet and I hear this voice clearly speak to me “Run.”  And I’m thinking run?  Now I’m used to hearing voices by the way remember I’m sitting in the mental hospital, I’m totally insane, and they’re going to give me electronic lobotomy to take me out permanently.  I’m hearing this voice saying “Run.”  I’ve got 15 feet back and forth I’m not going to go anywhere, I got four foot wide if  I go back and forth I can’t go anywhere.  So I stood there in the middle of the hallway, guards are on each side looking and I said, “Where?”  I looked over on my left hand side it was late November 1971 and I remember seeing the door unlocked and that usually had 2 dead bolts and a pad lock and…

Sid: How in the world could it be unlocked?

Gary:  I have no idea, that was…

Sid: This is a high security mental institution, you do not have unlocked doors for the dangerous patients.

Gary:   Oh yeah, these are for those that have killed, these are for those…these are the heaviest of psychotic multi-schizophrenic people that are on the face of the earth and this door is unlocked.  So I start running across the field, it was snowing out but I got the property state hospital shirt, property state hospital pants. And of course you don’t have shoes and socks because they don’t give ties to mental patients because you know they are afraid that they’ll hand themselves and so I’m running.  And I remember when the cruiser brought me in, the police cruiser, I remember that there was some trusted patients in one sector so I’m trying to get my bearing and I recognizing that there was an area and it’s snowing out and I mean I am running.  And I ran over toward where there was a commissary and I said “I’m on the run, next thing I knew these guys started saying “Run, run, run.”

Sid: (Laughing)

Gary: The voices rises, “Run, run, run.”  One guy throws a huge blue P-coat over on me, another guy gives me a set of shoes, they had been size 16 and I wear a 10.  And I throw these coats on, clothes on, shoes on and I bust out the other door.  Now I’m heading to the gate.  Now you got a guard shack there, barbed wire all over the place and I’m thinking “Oh, he’s going to think I’m escaping.”  And I tuck my beard in the coat and I put my hand in and I lower my face and I raise my hand and say “Hey bub,” the next thing I know the guy opens the gate and I’m out of that mental hospital.  I escaped because the voice of God spoke “Run.”  God knows who are His, God knows how to reach people in darkness; God knows how to break the bans and the shackles of oppression off of people’s minds that have been tormented by the enemy and bowed down.  And I ran out in the middle of the road I’ll never forget this, and the next thing I know I watched a car run right through me and I’m standing on the side of the sidewalk and I thought, “What was that?”  Years later a lady in my church who had edited the book that you have here available called “Make Fear Bow.” She had been on our church and said “Oh, my God you’re the red headed man.”  She was a doctor degree physicist, psychologist in the hospital.  She was the one who drove through the redheaded man.  Pulled off the side of the road in a total panic, thought she killed the guy and in an audible voice of God spoke to her and said, “He is Mine, do not turn him in.”  And she was paralyzed with a verbal voice of God; the audible voice of God and she never reported me escaping from the mental hospital.  It wasn’t until she was in our church, what 20 years later that she said “You’re the guy with the red hair.”  And she stood up right in the middle of the church service and I said “What guy with the red hair?”  She said “You’re the one.” She’d been praying for this guy for years and here I was pasturing her life.

Sid: Okay but then what caused you to go back to the same mental institution the next day, why did you do that?

Gary:  I’m in Florida, I escape I go to Florida and I remember talking to God the second time. The first time was on the carpet when I asked Him into my heart which I didn’t even know that I was doing that.  But the second time I’m down in Ft. Lauderdale and have a new passport, I’ve got money and all I have to do is go to the P.O. Box in a factious name and I’m ready to go right into Columbia because we’re involved with Colombian people. I got this thought.  If God’s really real I want to go back to Delaware with a clean bill of mental health.  And I thought okay, God and I remember saying it to Him, If You’re really real if this is real” and I wasn’t sure it was I want to go back to Delaware; I want to get a free clean bill of mental health; I don’t want anything to interfere.”  And so the next thing I know I travel back to Delaware, not going back…there’s a lot of things happen but I knock on the mental hospital door and I said “Look.” They say “What are you doing here?”  It turned out that there was a contract on my life they found out from a mafia group up in Philadelphia.  I had an all state APD on me, armed and dangerous because it was a gun store that had been robbed and they thought that I did it. They also thought the organized crime group thought I turned State’s evidence that’s why I vanished out of sight immediately.  So I’m knocking on the door and everybody knows I’m wanted, everybody knows they are ready to just shoot to kill if they find me. I’m standing there and I say “Look just let me back in, all I ask you to do is just give me no drugs, let me be in an open ward and I want to show you that I’m sane.”  So they say “Well, come on in we’ve been looking for you, the State Police are looking the All State APD out on you.  So I walk back in there and it took several months but they went through every test possible and they could find nothing wrong with me.  So it was a complete documented total behavioral change they have no idea how and why I became sane.

Sid: But then, the story goes on. He gets married and he goes to a party and he hadn’t been really disciples and he takes one joint and he goes berserk again; he’s new wife says “I don’t want anything more to do with you.”  She is going to divorce him in court at the divorce, but what did you say?

Gary:  You know I knew that love had more power than anything else. So I went to the judge and the judge asked me he said “Do you have anything to say?”  I said “Yes, I’d like to open up the Bible.”  He said “We don’t open up the Bible we only put our hand on it.”  I said “Sir, I said “This is my divorce I want to open up the Bible to lst Corinthians  chapter 7.”  He said “Well, if you must go ahead.”  So I opened up the Bible and it says “But if she depart, let her depart but let her remain unmarried or be reconciled unto her husband.”  So I said “I want on the court record today that I’m only going to permit her to be reconciled to me.”  So he looks at me and he says “You’re crazy.”  And he looks over at Fay and he says “I see why you divorced him.”  And of course the court stenographers taking down all the documentation of me making a statement out the scripture. There it was in verse 11 1st Corinthians 7 in the court documents “And if she depart let her main unmarried or be reconciled to her husband.”  And that’s exactly what I told the judge, I said “She’ll only remarry me.”  And then as Fay and I were walking out of the court house she got her divorce that’s what she wanted I took her out to lunch, I said “Well, there’s nobody else interested in you.

Sid: I’m amazed that she went out to lunch with you.

Gary:  Yeah, she did yeah she was like what? You are crazy and she went to lunch with me.  It was the craziest thing. she was like “How …

Sid: But you know what she began to see because number one, Gary prayed.  Number two, Gary believed. She was ready to marry him again after the divorce an absolute miracle but she was fearful and this is one of the many things that Gary has observed, he’s a Senior Pastor now I’ve been to his congregation in New Castle, Delaware, Victory Christian Church.  She was fearful, but Gary began to see she was able to make fear bow in her life. Gary wants you to make fear bow in your life.  Is it money, is it you haven’t fulfilled your destiny, is it your health, is it unsaved loved ones.  Fear is the opposite obstacles for it to manifest in your life the promises of God.
